About Us
The chorus has been in existence since 1990, from an initial idea by Bob Stevens, our current Honorary President.  Beginning as the "Royal Mailers" and  reflecting its postal origins  the current
name is synonymous with North East Scotland's Silver City.

Our "Sunday Name" is
The Aberdeen Barbershop Harmony Club

We are the only male barbershop chorus in the North of Scotland, with a current membership of over forty guys.

The Club is one of over 50 members of the British Association of Barbershop Singers (BABS).

Our Association is affiliated to the parent Society, the Barbershop Harmony Society of America and to the UK choral organisation "Making Music", previously the National Federation of Music Societies.

We are a Social and Competitive chorus meaning that we sing for fun and the entertainment of others, but also like to compete in annual barbershop conventions against many other choruses from around the UK and Europe.

A city the size of Aberdeen should be able to support a chorus membership of well over 50.

Our principal recruitment forum over the last few years has been our

"LEARN TO SING"
Course

which run over a 6 week period but with no
requirement to commit to chorus membership at the end. It's fun, it's instructive with no previous singing experience or being able to read music required, just a desire to sing.

The next such course is scheduled to start on
Tuesday August 31st at 7pm
at our practice venue and will run for 6 weeks.

Contact Bob, our Chorus Manager for more information and watch the local Press for details.
(See contact page).

We also actively recruit all year round, whether through personal approaches, advertised Open Nights or through guys having seen the chorus perform and wanting to join up with others who really seem to be enjoying themselves!

WHAT YOU GET FROM US
Well, as a barbershop chorus, probably the best singing tuition provided by any amateur singing organisation in the country.

  • an amazing singing environment for the amateur

  •  a significant period every Practice Night devoted to singing techniques with instruction from our trained and experienced coaches.

  • access to personal singing tuition

  • an opportunity to become a Quartet singer

  • from time to time the chorus invites external coaches to our Practice Nights.

  • sheet music - but since reading music is certainly NOT a necessity, personal teach CDs

Outwith local Chorus activities, our Association holds an annual weekend coaching school at Nottingham in the autumn providing a range of courses from basic singing to song arrangement and even directing.

You also get the enjoyment from regularly being with a group of like-minded guys, making music that people really do enjoy listening to.

WHAT WE WANT FROM YOU!
Commitment to the Chorus in terms of Practice Night attendance, developing your voice, learning and practising the repertoire and attending performances!

What could be easier?
