About UsWe’re a multi-award winning male chorus in North East Scotland that’s been wowing audiences since 1990.
We sing without any musical accompaniment using a mix of tenor, lead, baritone and bass voices to produce fantastic harmonies. Our style is known as ‘Barbershop’ but it’s not all striped jackets and straw boater hats!
Humble Beginnings
The Granite City Chorus has been in existence since 1990 when it started with four or five guys getting together to discover the joys of producing that unique barbershop sound. Starting out as the “Royal Mailers” the chorus later adopted its current name to reflect its roots in North East Scotland’s Silver City. Over the years we’ve grown into a chorus around 40-strong that also includes 2 quartets and an octet. And out of over fifty groups affiliated to the British Association of Barbershop Singers (BABS), we’re the furthest North.
Under the direction of Colin Reid since 2007 the chorus continued to grow and develop its repertoire. Recently Peter Williams took over as Musical Director and we’re looking forward to seeing where his inspiration will take us!
Why do we do it?
Quite simply we love to sing. It’s joyful, proven to benefit health, a great way to make new friends, provides great entertainment and we get an absolute thrill ringing chords with gorgeous overtones. Even when we take on a challenging song, the sense of achievement from performing it is hard to beat!
About You
No previous experience necessary! We meet every Tuesday evening at 7:30pm – 9:30pm in the Hall behind Fountainhall Church at Midstocket.
