About Us

The Granite City Chorus has been in existence since 1990, its formation inspired by Bob Stevens, our current Honorary President. Beginning as the "Royal Mailers" the chorus later adopted its current name to reflect its roots in North East Scotland's Silver City.

The chorus is one of over fifty such groups who are members of the British Association of Barbershop Singers (BABS). The chorus has a current membership of over forty singers and is the only BABS registered male barbershop chorus in the North of Scotland.

Our singing style is the unaccompanied four part close harmony of tenor, lead, baritone and bass voices combining to create that unique barbershop sound. Under the direction of Colin Reid since 2007 the chorus has continued to grow and develop its repertoire which encompasses a variety of songs ranging from traditional barbershop through to musical theatre, Scottish, and vintage pop standards.

Many types of songs can be arranged in the Barbershop style. In our repertoire at any time we have a range of songs from traditional barbershop to Scottish and vintage Pop standards.

If you're thinking of joining us, want to engage the chorus or just want to see what we are about, either contact the Chorus Manager via the Contacts Page or come along on any Practice Evening and you'll be made very welcome.

And why not bring a friend?

Breaking News

Our Learn to Sing course went down well with plenty of guys taking part over the last 4 weeks. Great to see new faces and make new friends and we were made up when they sang “I‘d like to teach the world to sing“ to us without any help from GCC members - good work guys‚ it‘d be great to see you back next week!
